First day in Sydney

After a late night we got going around ten the next day and wandered around nearby our hotel before venturing to far into the city. Went around to nearby piers as we were across from the opera house though were still able to get some good pictures. Later that afternoon we walked across the bridge and into town and saw much of the city. Got a lot of good pics at day and night though didn't actually do much in the way of any guided tours at that point.
Below: Took a little time to walk in King's street and saw several car dealerships including this Ferrari and a Lamborghini and several others.

A little well needed Vacay, after a loooong flight

Got to australia after nearly 2 days travel time, left Iraq on the 11th and flew military air to Kuwait where we signed in and waited for our flight. Our initial flight from kuwait to Dubai was scheduled for the next day, as we flew from Iraq in the evening and landed again within an hour, once we bussed from the post to the military terminal at the kuwait airport we waited a few hours until the people who worked there forgot us and didn't get us to our flight on time, so back to post and rescheduled for the next day. At kuwait we waited in several lines and security checkpoints, finally on the plane we flew for an hour and a half to dubai without an issue things looked good, with an 8 hour layover in dubai we got to our terminal with plenty of time to spare including time enough for a couple more security checkpoints. But once on the plane the plane suffered an electrical malfunction and were forced to wait 2 more hours before being told to go back to the terminal. Several hours later the plane was ready to go with the errors apparently due to equipment overheating due to the weather, at that point we left Dubai for Sydney, Australia finally or so we thought once the plane had reached the edge of australia we were informed we needed to make an emergency medical landing due to an ill passenger. And so we landed in Perth, Australia where we waited for several more hours due to a new crew needing to be called in from of all places Sydney due to the current crew reaching their max flight time for that day. Finally airborne again with a new crew we made it to Sydney within a few hours and after several failed attempts to call hotels we went to the internet and put in a reservation at a hotel. After that we looked to catch a train and found we just missed the last one less than a minute past, from there we went outside to catch a cab just in time to have one pull up, the first thing that had gone our way since we left a couple days and time zones past, we went to the hotel to find that the receptionist had already gone to bed as we had pulled in at near midnight, after getting in contact with the receptionist we were able to get a group room with promise of seperate rooms the next day. At that point was the turn around we needed to bright our trip.

Out of Touch (Again)

Been out of touch with a reliable web source so have been unable to maintain my site for those of you who have been looking in every now and then. In the past 5 months have been serving in southern Iraq, am now enjoying a little leave in Australia finally but here's a little of what's happened since my last post.
This is one of our housing units that we're all living in one trailer three rooms 2-3 people per room.

And here's one of our soldiers hard at work, or something like that, Twizzlers and office chairs it's a hard life. UFFDA!

Out of Touch

Been out of touch with the internet (and reality some might say Haha) so here's a brief update on what I've been doing the past few weeks. Been keeping up on some missed training that occured while either I was in Ft. Gordon or on other training while in MN, so I've been making it up on vehicle emergency response training, reflexive short range marksmanship, and a few other various trainings in radio response and communication. Other than this been keeping up on equipment training of what we're working with and preparing to move out so everything is readied and inventoried for the umpteenth time (practice makes perfect).

Been completing online certifications on safety lectures, and other than that in the past few days it's been training as usual (and wet).
Just joined up with facebook this past week so have been looking for old highschool friends and work friends online, and surprisingly found some family members I hardly expected to find on there (surprise, surprise).
Also looking forward to a little leave time in a week or so, heading to AZ for a little fishing and golf oh and visit some family as well.

HazMat transportation

Just a month ago I finished a class on the transportation of HazMat, or hazardous materials, in Cp Ripley, MN. The class was approx 60 hours and 4 tests spread over 10 days. Since that time I have since been put sent to Ft. Lewis, Wa where we're preparing our equipment for our upcoming deployment to the middle east. Just got back from training less than six months ago but am using equipment that we skimmed over in class, however the actual equipment is very similar in concept and operability to what I had trained on. On another note, as my family has probably noticed or heard, I finally got my promotion to PFC (Private 1st Class) in January for a few extra dollars and change in my pocket.

vacation to Oregon

On a few days off a couple of us took a little side trip to Hardy Falls, Oregon where I got a few pictures of the falls and a few images of some scenery along the way including a sign for "sharp turn ahead".

Neither this is a trick question, US currency is printed on cloth fabric and trains pass through Grand Central Terminal not Grand Central Station, which is a post office.

Next Question:

Foot Prints

One night a man had a dream. He dreamed he was walking along the beach with the Lord. Across the sky flashed scenes from his life. For each scene, he noticed two sets of footprints in the sand; one belonged to him and the other to the Lord.

When the last scene of his life flashed before him, he looked back at the footprints in the sand. He noticed that many times along the path of his life there was only one set of footprints. He also noticed that it happened at the very lowest and saddest times in his life.

This really bothered him and he questioned the Lord about it. "Lord, you said that once I decided to follow you, you'd walk with me all the way. But I have noticed that during the most troublesome times in my life, there is only one set of footprints. I don't understand why when I needed you most you would leave me."

The Lord replied, "My precious, precious child, I love you and would never leave you. During your times of trial and suffering, when you see only one set of footprints, it was then that I carried you."

Seattle

Just recently flew in to ft. Lewis at the SeaTac (or Seattle/Tacoma) airport, here's a little of what I've seen including beautiful landscapes. Been to a few restaurants including one called The Crab Pot where you can order a meal for two of various fish and shellfish. They will take a large bowl of the cooked food and pour it on the table give you a mallet to crack the shells and have at it.

Lutefisk

A little lutefisk side trip with the masters of cuisine, a few old scandiavians. My Grandpa makes the headlines as a few swedes make an annual migration in search of the white gold. And to mention Grandpa is the one in the green jacket, red hat, and sparkling personality.

Joke of the Day

Joke
"Just yesterday was the worst plane accident in the history of MN" stated Sven and Ole. "A Cessna plane crashed into a lutheran cemetary, so far 827 bodies have been recovered and that number is expected to climb."
(hint: for those of you not familiar with cessnas they are two-seater airplanes)

Question: What weighs more the amount of paper used to make American currency in a year or the number of trains which pass through Grand Central Station in a single year?
(Answer will be posted later)

Travelling to the Sand Box

As per my profile I am currently with the 34th Infantry Division "Red Bulls" Army National Guard, I am specializing in Communications, specifically pertaining to satellites. My unit is currently preparing to be deployed to Iraq, and I will be leaving with an advanced group going ahead of my unit to Fort Lewis, WA where I will be preparing equipment so the rest of my unit will be able to train and prepare for our upcoming travels.
I recently finished a volunteer training in Camp Ripley, MN for hazardous materials (hazmat) transportation pertaining to multiple items from chemicals to ammunition and vehicles by land, vessel or commercial and military air travel.
